2023 Sales Compensation Trends Survey Executive Summary

Eighty-six sales departments participated in the 21st annual 2023 Sales Compensation Trends Survey©. Participants provided data in November and December 2022 on what occurred in 2022 and what they plan for 2023.

The overall observation is that sales departments had a very good year in 2022. Sales leaders had anticipated 8% growth in 2022, which occurred. Turnover was slightly higher in 2022 than in previous years, but companies expect turnover to return to the traditional rate in 2023. Although the year began with encroaching wage inflation, featuring select instances of pay compression, near the end of 2022, wage inflation and overall economic trends began to moderate.
